ruptured 5:45 this morning unleashing 45,000 gallons of water. it rushed down hill into a daly city neighborhood and brought the hill with it. mud filled streets and built a disgusting wall around several cars. concerned police officers ran from door-to-door to wake up the neighborhood. >> they ran at 5 in the morning several times and i woke up what is going on. they are like there's a mudslide you have to evacuate. >> reporter: members of the wong family had no idea how long they would be out of their home they packed two days worth of clothing and tried to navigate through the mud and water at 5:00 in the morning with suitcases. >> they said there's an evacuation center across the street from our house we couldn't get there because of the mud. >> reporter: when the sun came up she saw her car halfway covered in mud, sinking by the minute. >> it makes me want to cry it was my first car. >> reporter: after they stopped the water authorities decided to keep eight homes evacuated because of concerns the hillside could give way. the victoria family left at 5:00 and told not to return.
the work. >> in daly city tonight no time to waste. folks are trying to shore up a hillside weakened by a water main break that flooded streets. lyanne melendez has the story. >> reporter: as soon as daylight hit. they begin the job of erosion control, first shoving back mounds of dirt. hay bales to keep the water and debris away from the street and homes once the rain begins. >> we're going to try and sustain it and not create a public nuisance for the neighbors by having more of the muddy water going down the streets. >> this was the scene yesterday in this daly city neighborhood, mud everywhere after a water pipe broke. cars were covered up to their wheels. a few residents were evacuated but eventually allowed back inside. today the department of water and waste resources crews are clearing mud. they want to divert the water into the storm drain. it will help clear the rain of debris. >> if there is something we need to be worried about, they would tell us. they didn't tell us anything yesterday so we think we're safe for now. >> i'm concerned about the park. we have had a beautif
. today san francisco police arrested a second suspect. 19-year-old nicholas hudson from daly city. >> this person was seen smashing out the window and vandalizing the muni bus on the 29th. >> reporter: the public helped track hudson down. >> and if it wasn't through the use of social media and the help of the public we wouldn't have been able to capture this person. >> reporter: social media helped police arrest 22-year-old gregory from san francisco. he was caught after this picture went viral. police are hoping the public can help do it again. so they are releasing more pictures from that night. take a look at this man, dressed in dark clothing and a baseball p cay. baseball cap. in addition they are looking for this man, the san francisco chronicle caught a photo of him using a barricade to smash the windshield. she dressed in a red and gray striped long sleeved shirt. and police have not found these arsonists we showed you last week. you can see them setting fire to the bus in this video. >> they are all felony crimes. arson damaging the muni bus. reckless acts on the street.
